👿 What Are Demons?
A Beginner’s Guide for Horror Writers (and Brave Readers)
Friends let’s not sugarcoat this. Demons are real. And if you write horror or the supernatural? You need to know how they think, move, and destroy — because your story might be their only safe place.
Let’s talk demons — from the sulfur stinkers to the white-eyed soul collectors. Read to the end for a free 30-day trial! You can also join Vault of the Supernatural, my private horror writing group. We explore creatures like this with templates, prompts, weekly meetings, and more.
👹 What Are Demons?
● Demons are supernatural creatures linked directly to the devil.
● They bring disease, temptation, and in some cases, full-blown possession.
● Some of the worst names in demon history? Satan. Lilith. Asmodeus.
● Many were once human. But after centuries of torment in Hell, their souls became rotten.
● Most demons no longer remember what it’s like to be human.
● They enjoy pain. They feed on fear. And they lie better than any human ever could.
● Some believe they are here to “cleanse the earth” — like Lucifer once claimed.
Bottom line? They hate us. And they’re not bored. They’re on a mission.
🔥 How does someone become a demon?
● Deals with crossroads demons.
● Witchcraft or pacts with evil spirits.
● After death, if their soul is already claimed, they may not rest.
● Some demons start as humans and work their way up in Hell’s chain of command.
● When they show up on Earth? You might see them as black smoke, long and snake-like.
● You’ll smell sulfur if they’re nearby. The stronger the stink, the stronger the demon.
● Some are sent on special missions:
Spread disease
Kill hunters
Tempt souls into damnation.
🧠 When a demon possesses someone.
● Their eye color changes—black, white, red, yellow, or gray.
● The demon can enter through the eyes or mouth.
● They target people with emotional pain or a broken spirit.
● It’s violent. It’s personal. And it’s hard to reverse.
● You'll feel the shift. Cold air. Flickering lights. Voices from nowhere.
💀 Crossroad Demons
These demons buy souls for hell.
● They offer humans what they want most in exchange for their souls.
● Fame. Love. Power. Revenge. You name it.
● But it always ends the same: death → hell → demon hood.
● How to summon them (not advised)?
Midnight
Magic circle
Copper coin
Ancient chant
● Once summoned, they look human. But they’re not.
👁️ White-Eyed Demons
● The strongest of the strong.
● Older than most demons.
● Second, only to Lucifer.
● Other demons fear them.
● They have glowing white eyes. No pupils. No mercy.
● Immune to holy water, salt, and your standard spiritual tools.
● When do they show up? It’s already too late.
⚔️ Knights of Demons
The opposite of guardian angels.
● They’re Hell’s warriors — sent to punish, collect, and kill.
● Each one has a target or territory.
● They report to demon kings like Bael or Asmodeus.
● How do you spot one?
Weapons that scream or bleed.
Armor that looks cursed
Cold eyes. Cold voice. Cold everything.
● If one’s after you? They won’t stop until they’ve finished their task.
