Friends,

I used to think the biggest threat to my writing was the demon living in my attic.

Turns out, it was my phone.

No joke. The dark forces I faced weren’t just ghosts or shadows. They were Instagram reels, laundry piles, and the "ding" of an urgent message.

And yet… I kept writing. Or at least, I found a way to come back to it. Again, and again.

This is the story of how I stayed focused. I found a community that embraced my passion for spirits and strange events. This group didn't just accept me; it thrived because of our shared interests. And how you can too.

✍️ Writing While Haunted (by Distraction)

Let me be real with you. My writing setup used to look like this:

  • Laptop open

  • Pandora blaring

  • Coffee hot

  • Good intentions

In 15 minutes, I might check out ghost towns in Arizona. Or I could watch YouTube videos titled “REAL FOOTAGE OF A DEMON CAUGHT ON RING CAM."

And let’s not even talk about my partner popping in with “Hey babe, have you seen my charger?” like it was a national emergency. Every. Single. Time.

So, I sat him down. We made a writing schedule together. No interruptions. Mutual respect. “If the house isn’t on fire,” I told him, “Text me. I won’t see it. I’m in the Vault.”

Literal? No. Effective? Absolutely.

🛠 Tools That Kept My Sanity Intact

Notion became my ghostwriting HQ. (Shoutout to Ms. Yana, whose guide by guest post writer Alberto Cabas Vidan got me hooked.) Content calendars. Subscriber trackers. Templates. It's like having a haunted control room… but organized.

Also, Ms. Sweta Sharma shares in her awesome post here how she saves herself 50+ hours a week by organizing her work and personal life by using Notion.

Trello? That’s my demon-hunting journal, color-coded. Daily tasks. Weekly prompts. Contest entries. When I move something to “Done,” it’s like banishing a spirit. Closure.

Phone Settings: Notifications off. Family on. Pandora on low. I give myself a soundtrack and lock the rest out. Like salt circles for the digital world.

👻 Enter: Writing.com — My Paranormal Pod of Wordsmiths

Welcome to a place that seems crafted by Edgar Allan Poe's ghost and a librarian who also hunts vampires.

You can read my full review on Writing.com Here.

Writing.com.

A fantastic community of hundreds of writers. All genres, but especially horror, supernatural, and yes, the dark stuff. We see you, Jersey Devil fans.

What you’ll find there:

  • Contests galore (My favorite: The Writer’s Cramp—daily prompts due by noon. And yes, my story, The Inferno, started there. It won. Got published twice. Ended up in Supernatural Realms: Tales from Another Realm on Amazon.)

  • Token prizes you can trade for gear, membership perks, and even coffee mugs. (Haunted? Maybe. Use at your own risk.)

  • Critique groups that read your work and offer more than “This is good." 👍

  • Newsletters by genre with real tips—not recycled fluff.

  • The Submission tracker helps you see where your stories are. No more guessing if that publisher has ghosted you or has vanished.

And the best part? It’s run by a husband-and-wife duo. It feels like a real home. Not a cold platform run by bots and algorithms.
